The library program encourages the joy of reading in a safe and welcoming environment.
All students attend the library on a weekly basis with their classroom teacher. Library visits support classroom learning by giving children the opportunity to check out books, read and conduct research using a variety of media sources. Books are available in both Spanish and English.
Children may also visit the library during recess and lunch and before and after school, unless there is a class using the facility. The class schedule is posted on the library door.
Books may be checked out for 2 weeks as follows:
Grades K-1: 1 book
Grade 2: 2 books
Grades 3-6: 3 books
Parents: 6 books
Overdue: Books become overdue after 2 weeks.
Lost and Damaged Books
Fees: $20.00 per hard cover, $10.00 per soft cover.
Students are responsible for good care of borrowed materials. If a book is lost or damaged, the family is responsible for paying for replacement. A child will not be able to borrow a new book until the first book is returned or paid for replacement. If a lost book is found after the fee has been paid, a refund will be issued if the book is returned in good condition.
The library has two major fundraisers: a book sale at Chaucer’s and Scholastic Book Sales.
Read with Roosevelt
The library supports Read with Roosevelt, a fun event that invites parents and members of the community parents to read to students at school.
Library Accounts for Parents
Parents are also welcome to check out books with a library account. To set up an account, please visit before or after school, Mondays – Thursdays, or before school on Fridays.
Mon-Fri. 8:30am – 3:00pm
Also open during recess for students who prefer not to spend recess on the playground, unless there is a class using the facility.
